Middletown, NJ –  The non-profit Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League (ABCCL) has bolstered its roster of collegiate teams through the addition of NJ Elite Baseball for the 2018 season.  Earlier the League announced they had brought on the Union County Gamers, based in Kenilworth and Baseball U’s North Jersey Express out of Edison, NJ to its lineup of teams for the 2018 summer season.

ABCCL President, Jay Blackwell expressed optimism in making the announcement, “We are really energized by this latest addition.  The NJ Elite program brings with them a solid management group, lots of experience and a very positive approach that will benefit our League and their players from day one.”

ABCCL Governing Board Chairperson, Monique Koehler echoed Blackwell’s enthusiasm. “For the ABCCL to be able to generate the kind of momentum we have in recent weeks is great news. Not just for the League, but for the schools, players and communities we’ve been serving for going on 18 years,” she explained.

“Having NJ Elite Baseball come on board is another big step for us as we continue to strive to give the college baseball community a great cost-effective, highly competitive option for their student athletes during the summers.”

New Jersey Elite’s founder, Eric Alvarez, will be the General Manager and Head Coach of the college squad for the 2018 season.

Alvarez is no stranger to the ABCCL, having played in the League during its inaugural season and later served as a head coach in 2008 and 2009.

He is also a former coach at New Jersey City University where he helped revamp the baseball program, leading the team to a 2004 regular season CUNY title and runner up finish in the playoffs.  During his two years as head coach and four as an assistant, the Gothic Knights had four players sign professional contracts, including White Sox draft pick, pitcher Baldwin Vargas, and shortstop Jose Fulgencio, holder of a 44-game hitting streak, a D3 national record.

“We are extremely happy to have the opportunity to join the ABCCL in 2018,” stated Alvarez.  “We want to thank Monique Koehler, Jay Blackwell, the ABCCL Governing Board members, coaches, players, and supporters for making us feel at home.  The ABCCL Board has done a remarkable job sustaining the integrity and unique values of the League for the last 17 years.   We’re committed to helping uphold and continue that tradition this coming year and for many years to come. I  know I speak for our entire staff when I say that we’re looking forward to being part of a very exciting and rewarding journey for New Jersey Elite players, coaches and fans alike.”
