Middletown, NJ – Baseball U North Jersey Express has joined the non-profit Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League (ABCCL) for the 2018 season, announced ABCCL president, Jay Blackwell. “We are very pleased to add the Baseball U Express to our League and really excited about the quality and experience the organization brings to the League,” said Blackwell.

The new college-level program is one of five Baseball U affiliates and is based in Edison, NJ and operating out of the Express Athletic Center (TEAC).  The ABCCL addition will be coached by Brett Picaro. Express General Manager is Mike Murray Jr.

Murray stressed that Baseball U North college players will benefit greatly from the ABCCL’s highly regarded competition and balanced, statewide schedule. “We see this as a great move for the organization and a great opportunity for many college players whether they live here in New Jersey or anywhere in the country.”

A baseball fixture in the Garden State, Murray is a partner at TEAC Baseball, Director of Baseball U North New Jersey, and also serves as both Head Baseball Coach and Director of Athletics at Saint Joseph High School in Metuchen.  He has extensive knowledge of the collegiate summer ball landscape, having won league titles as a player in the Valley Baseball League (2007 Waynesboro Generals) and New England Collegiate Baseball League (2008 Sanford Mainers).  He was also an All-League and All-Star Selection in the Cape Cod Baseball League (2009 Chatham A’s).

Murray played collegiately at Wake Forest University before playing in the San Francisco Giants organization from 2010-2012, where he earned All-League honors with their Northwest League affiliate in 2011.  Here in New Jersey, Mike was named the 2017 GMC Red Division Coach of the Year and GMC Coach of the Year after leading the Saint Joseph Falcons to the GMC tournament championship.

“After years of working with ABCCL Board Chairperson, Monique Koehler while operating teams in the ABCCL’s affiliated high school programs, and some careful consideration about joining the ABCCL, I’m really happy and excited about bringing a Baseball U college team into being,” Murray said. “I’m confident that Baseball U North Jersey has developed the infrastructure necessary to bring another quality franchise to the ABCCL.”

He pointed out that over the last two summers, the graduating high school senior team from Baseball U North has won more than 45 games and six tournament titles.  Murray added, “Where a lot of talented clubs let their graduating seniors find new places to play, we’re now able to offer opportunities for those young men to continue to develop their talents and join with other dedicated players while competing in the ABCCL.”

Other ABCCL franchises include the:  Jersey Aces, NJ Angels, Clemente Baseball, Freehold Clippers*, Ocean Giants*, Union County Gamers, New Brunswick Matrix, Monmouth Monarchs* and the North River Superstars.
