Middletown, NJ/ January 10, 2018 –  The Union County Gamers is the latest franchise addition to the non-profit Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League (ABCCL), beginning play in the 2018 summer season, announced Monique Koehler, ABCCL Governing Board Chairperson.

“It’s great to have the Gamers join the ABCCL family,” she said. “In fact, this is really a homecoming since many core members of the Gamers management team have been part of the ABCCL in the past.  We’re very happy to have them back and proud that their organization reflects the ABCCL tradition of excellence both on and off the field.”

Gamers Baseball Academy is located in Kenilworth, N.J, and is owned by ABCCL alumnus Hasani Whitfield, Head Baseball Coach at Union County College and Jon Lewis, Pitching Coach at Stony Brook University.  The Gamers will be playing their home games at Walsh Field in Cranford, NJ, home of the Union County College Owls.

Mike Kolesar, Union County Gamers general manager

Mike Kolesar has been named the Gamers General Manager.  Kolesar played for Caldwell College and enjoyed one of the most impressive four-year college careers in the New Jersey school’s history.  As team captain for three years, he was a 3-time All-CACC and All-State selection.  In 2004 he was second in the nation among Division II ballplayers in stolen bases. In that same year he also earned 1st Team All-Region honors as a pitcher/outfielder and was named the CACC Tournament MVP. Mike also played in the ABCCL during his Caldwell Hall of Fame career.

After Mike’s playing days he became a winter clinic coach for Caldwell and a private baseball instructor. He’s also coached with a host of premier baseball organizations in both NY and NJ.

“I’m thrilled to be back with the ABCCL,” he said.  “This league helped to define my career by allowing me to continue my growth as a player and as a person. I’m looking forward to giving something back to the League and this new group of players,” he added.

Joining Kolesar will be Gamers Assistant General Manager, Ryan McGee and Director of Communications, Jon Gribbin.  Like Kolesar and Whitfield, McGee and Gribbin also boast strong ties to the ABCCL.

“It’s an honor to be able to return to a League that helped me grow as a young man,” stated McGee.  “I am still in contact with many of the guys I played with during my time in the ABCCL and along with great friendships, I continue to appreciate the lessons learned on and off the field.  Now, being able to share that experience with our players is really exciting.”
