Holmdel, NJFrank Bilancio (Chesterfield, NJ/Saint Edward’s University, TX) launched two 2-run home runs  to led the Monmouth Monarchs to a 7-3 victory over the Jersey Aces at St. John Vianney High School on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams were scoreless through three innings until the Monarchs struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning. Isaiah Hall (Burlington Township, NJ/Lincoln University, PA) led off with a walk and stole second before Bilancio launched his first blast over the left field fence for a two-run home run and a 2-0 Monarchs lead.

The Aces got one back in the top of the sixth when Donovan Stallworth (Jefferson, NJ/The College of New Jersey) doubled to lead off the inning. He stole third and scored on a single by Joel Minch (Clayton, NJ/Rowan University, NJ), cutting the deficit to one.

The Monarchs added two more in the bottom of the sixth. Joseph Rotelli (Morganville, NJ/Dominican College, NY) doubled with one out and stole third before Bilancio crushed another ball over the right-center field fence. His second two-run homer of the game pushed the Monarchs lead to 4-1.

“Frank has been locked in the last couple of games,” Monarchs Assistant Coach Matt Meleo said. “He’s been swinging real well. I’ve been working with him in the cage and he’s been progressing nicely throughout the summer. We hope to keep him rolling because hitting’s often contagious and the team is following his lead.”

Jack Hanley (Martinsville, NJ/Pomona-Pitzer College, CA) led off the top of the seventh for the Aces with a double and scored on a fielding error that enabled Stallworth to reach safely and advance to second base. He stole third and scored on a throwing error by the Monarchs’ catcher as his attempt to cut the runner down sailed into left field, making it a 4-3 ballgame.

But the Monarchs were not finished and padded their lead with a three spot in the bottom of the eighth. After two fly outs, Isaiah Lewis (Willingboro, NJ/Erskine College, SC) singled, stole second and scored on a single by Anthony Santoro (Manalapan, NJ/Rutgers University-New Brunswick, NJ). Tyler Coppo (Fitzwilliam, NH/University of Hartford, CT) followed up with the team’s third two-run home run of the game, bringing the affair to its 7-3 conclusion.

The Monarchs will host the Ocean Giants in a doubleheader at St. John Vianney High School on Sunday, July 2 at 10 a.m. while the Aces will take on the North River Superstars at Bergen Community College in Paramus in a doubleheader starting at noon.
