Holmdel, NJ – The Jersey Aces took a four run lead in the first inning and never looked back as they defeated the Ocean Giants, 10-5, on Tuesday night at Holmdel High School in a seven inning game that was called due to darkness.

“We were putting the ball in play tonight,” Aces Head Coach Lou Camilli Said. “Guys were using the entire field and it was very effective for us. They are very impressive hitters. It’s a very good team we were able to beat tonight. They are well coached and they battled the whole time. It was a great game to watch.”

Giovianni Torres (Harrisburg, PA/Lackawanna College, PA) doubled with one out in the top of the first and advanced to third on a balk. He would score on an RBI groundout to second. Kyle Walker (Piscataway, NJ/Rutgers University, NJ) and Chris Roan (Woodbury, NJ/Rowan College at Gloucester County, NJ) walked and both scored on a three-run home run by Andrew Holmes (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Bloomsburg University, PA) that gave the Aces an early 4-0 lead.

Ocean answered quickly, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Evan Pietronico (Matawan, NJ/New Jersey Institute of Technology) led off with a single and scored from first base on a double to left by Rob DeSanti (Barneget, NJ/Caldwell College, NJ), DeSanti scored on an infield single by Justin Bates (Brick, NJ/Montclair State University, NJ).

The Aces added two more runs in the top of the second when Nate Yoder (Spring Mount, PA/Salisbury University, MD) walked and scored on a single by Torres. Dante Camilli (Upper Deerfield, NJ/Salisbury University, MD) also walked and scored on a bases loaded walk to Roan, making it a 6-2 ballgame.

In the bottom of the second, the Giants’ Dan Tricarico (Piscataway, NJ/Rutgers University-Newark, NJ) homered to center field narrowing the gap to 6-3.

Both teams were kept off the board until the top of the sixth, when Hunter Mason (Marlton, NJ/Saint Peter’s University, NY) led off for the Aces with a walk and scored on a double by Roan. Walker walked and scored on an error that enabled Jack Hanley (Maitnsville, NJ/Pomona-Pitzer College, CA) to reach base. Hanley and Roan both scored on a triple by Holmes, who finished with five RBI on the day.

The Giants added single runs in the game’s last two innings. Pietronico stole home on a delayed steal in the sixth as the throw went down to second base, and Mike Cirilli (Ramsey, NJ/Alvernia University, PA) singled and scored on a fielder’s choice in the seventh to account for the final 10-5 outcome.

Aces’ starter Victor LeBron (Blackwood, NJ/Rowan University, NJ) threw a complete game and retired 12 batters in a row from the second through the fifth innings. He allowed five runs on eight hits in seven innings, but struck out six and walked only one.

“Victor’s a dominant player and he’s been outstanding for us all season long,” Camilli said. “He continues to give us an optimal performance every time.”

Both teams will face off in a rematch on Thursday, June 15 under the lights at Owens Park in Williamstown, NJ at 7 p.m.
