Ewing, NJ — The College of New Jersey sophomore Michael Fischer (ABCCL CLEMENTE/Robbinsville, NJ ), sporting a 2.73 ERA in 33 innings so far this season, recorded his fourth victory of the spring. Fischer went seven innings and struck out six limiting Rutgers-Newark to five hits and just two runs as the Lions’ offense plated 13 runs in the contest. Fischer had allowed just three Scarlet Raiders to reach base through the first six frames. A walk and two doubles got RN on the board, but the sophomore right-hander struck out the final two batters he faced to leave the game with a 10-2 lead.
Fisher was aided by the infield, which made a number of fine plays, and the all around play of catcher C.J. Gearhart (ABCCL CLIPPERS/Robbinsville, NJ), who threw out two runners attempting to steal. Gearhart also opened the fourth inning with a single and eventually scored on a wild pitch. He ended the day with 3 hits and 3 runs scored.
