ABCCL AND NJ STATE TROOPERS PLAY FOR MORE THAN JUST A WIN

Kevin Fountain – LAKEWOOD, N.J, (August 1, 2010) – League representatives from the ABCCL teamed up to defeat the New Jersey State Troopers 15-0 on Sunday in a charity game to raise money and awareness for Camp Quality New Jersey “Letting Kids with Cancer be Kids Again.”

The two teams both came out excited to play for the cause, but the college superstars decided to drive their excitement through the N.J. Trooper lineup. The ABCCL pitching combination of Shawn O’Neil (Philadelphia, P.A. / University of Richmond), Dan Morris (Matawan, N.J. / Felician College), Matt Morrone (Paris, Texas / West Virginia University), and Will Wardell (Jackson, N.J. / TCNJ) proved to be too much for the State Troopers as they combined for seven innings of no-hit ball, only one walk short of a perfect game.

Leading the ABCCL offense to their fifteen runs were Jack Provine (Lincroft, N.J. / West Chester University), who went 3-4 with two RBI’s, and Eric Wells (Athens, P.A. / S. Vermont College) who went 2-3 with a walk and two RBI’s.

Although the State Troopers lost the game, they gained a remarkable experience as they played alongside some of the best collegiate athletes in the state in order to raise money and awareness for a cause much more valuable than winning a game.

For a league that cherishes its players and the game itself, this charity game marks the end of the 2010 season, but is only the beginning of the wonderful things to come in the future of both the ABCCL and Camp Quality New Jersey.

In its tenth season, the Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League (ABCCL) is the premier amateur baseball league located entirely in New Jersey. Operating close to the New Jersey Shore, the league brings the best aspects of traditional wood bat baseball together with the modern athlete to create a competitive and instructive environment for its players, where admission is free and everyone plays hard for its fans.
